If you’re new to this sport, you’re in for an exciting journey of strength, technique, and personal growth.

Weightlifting or Olympic Weightlifting as many know it, consists of two (well, it’s actually 3) main lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. The snatch involves lifting the barbell from the ground to overhead in one smooth motion, while the clean and jerk consists of lifting the barbell to the shoulders (the clean) and then driving it overhead (the jerk).

Weightlifting may sound intimidating, but it’s actually incredibly accessible. The movements may seem complex at first, but with proper instruction and practice, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. Plus, Atticus Barbell Club is a space filled with people who are eager to help you succeed.

Why should you give weightlifting a try?
For starters, it’s a fantastic way to build strength and confidence. As you progress, you’ll be amazed at how much stronger you become, both physically and mentally. Mastering the technical aspects of the lifts offers a unique mental challenge, requiring focus, discipline, and perseverance.

But perhaps the best part of weightlifting is the sense of community it fosters. At Atticus, you’ll find a supportive group of members who share your passion for health and fitness. They’ll cheer you on, offer advice, and celebrate your successes with you every step of the way.

just remember as a beginner you’ll never be expected to walk into a gym, pick up a barbell and complete any of these lifts right off the bat, and in all honesty, very few people can do that. Part of the joy of embarking on a journey into weightlifting is the process, the 1% improvements after every session. before you know it you’re doing things you never thought you could.

The Snatch
Performed by lifting the barbell from the ground to overhead in one smooth motion. The snatch is widely considered the fastest and most powerful lift in the world — it’s also the most technical and requires skill, precision, and strength.

The Clean and Jerk
consists of two weightlifting movements performed with a barbell. During the clean, the athlete moves the barbell from the floor to a front racked position across the shoulders by dropping into a front squat under the barbell. The movement that follow… the jerk, consists of the athlete driving under the barbell from the stationary position across the front rack, by moving the barbell above the head.
